Voiceless

Just as my blog has been silent since last week, I too have been silent. I went to work Friday feeling fine and then by the end of the day, I could FEEL my voice deteriorating. By 9pm, I tried to talk and nothing came out. By Saturday morning, I felt like a truck hit me. I was running a fever, had a sore throat, and could not even get a whisper out. And you know what I REALLY wanted to do Saturday? Why, go to a family reunion, of course! (ahem..can you detect my sarcasm?) But I had promised my grandparents that we would go.

But I was SICK y'all. I only had like two bites of chicken at the family reunion, aka the southern Mecca of good down home cooking. It was a sad day because I really love to eat.

I did drink my weight in homemade lemonade so it wasn't a total loss.

Since Caleb and I got married in October, I have gotten laryngitis/the-worst-sore-throat-known-to-man FOUR separate times, each time lasting anywhere from 5 days to 10 days (and counting). I have come to the conclusion that I must be allergic to marriage.

I have been to the doctor, and she didn't seem to think it was that big of a deal...well, she has obviously never lost her voice and had to work with customers daily.

But I think my voice is finally coming back. Since Saturday, I have at least been making a noise when I try to talk.

I think I sound like this:

But I probably don't sound that cool.

A few of my favorite things

Just a little random post to share some of the things that have been making my world just a little happier.

1. Instagram!
I just about died from excitement when I realized that Instagram is now available for Android users!

 2. My SodaStream soda maker
Caleb got me the SodaStream for Christmas and I didn't start using it right away. Recently, I've realized that I have been drinking a TON of soda and needed to cut some of those calories (because my fat jeans were feeling a little tight...) Enter SodaStream. I use it to make SUPER fizzy water. Yes, just water. I tried one or two of the syrups but don't really care for them. But the water is AMAZING. The main reason I love soda (and champagne) is the bubbles. I realized I don't need all the sugar that comes with the soda, just give me the fizz. The bottles that come with it are 1 liter, I think, and I have been drinking 2-3 of these each day. Seriously, go get one. I promise it will be awesome.

3. A whole weekend off
I haven't had a free Saturday this semester. I have only been off one and I was busy, busy, busy that day and didn't get to enjoy it. But guess what? I am OFF WORK for two whole days starting at 6pm tomorrow. I am so excited. I get 48 hours straight with my hubs and my pup.

4. The Voice
I am not one to watch reality singing competition. Funny story, actually....I watched the second season of American Idol in middle school. I was devastated when Clay Aiken didn't win and swore off singing competitions forever. But the creators of The Voice are crafty. The premier came on right after the Super Bowl and it just sucked me in. I loves it. Right now I am rooting for Juliet from Team CeeLo, Mathai from Team Adam, Lindsey from Team Christina, and Erin from Team Blake!

Have a happy Friday!

My cure for baby fever

I have baby fever BAD. Like I go on tinyprints and make fake birth announcements bad...

If you need real birth announcements, TinyPrints has the cutest stuff around.

Yes, I have a problem. Caleb and I are nowhere near ready to have a baby....well, I might be emotionally ready, but that is just about it. We aren't where we want to be financially or professionally. Caleb still wants to go out and explore the world. We screw up taking care of our dog half the time (like yesterday when she nearly died from swollowing a plastic easter egg) so I can't imagine a baby in our lives right now.

But none the less, I want one BAD.

Luckily, I have stumbled upon the following two articles. They sucked that baby fever right out of me with things like "detached nipples" and that my whoo-ha will turn into "swollen, stitched up mighty mess that even Stephen King couldn't dream up". O my.

So ladies, if you need a cool compress to that baby fever, I urge you to read these two articles. They certainly scared me straight....for a while...

*DISCLAIMER: These are a bit graphic and way TMI. Read at your own risk*

1. The joy of breastfeeding
2. 10 things they don't tell you because no one would want to have a baby if they knew this stuff

Nicole

PS- If we do have a baby girl, that will not be her name. Caleb hates it. But if I had my way right now, that would be her name.

5 men I would leave my husband for

I love my husband, I really do. But I have a list of men, who if they walked into my life, I would gladly and hastily leave Caleb for. Lucky for Caleb, all of these men are fictional. :)

Am I crazy, or does anyone else have a list like this? Guys from movies, tv, or books that just make you melt everytime you think about them. Many of these men I have been in love with longer than I have even been with Caleb. They're like my first loves. *Sigh*

I realize all this sounds silly, but there is no denying it. These guys make me swoon. And since they are all nicely preserved on film or in writing, I can go on dates with them whenever I like. :)

So here is my top five list of men I would leave my husband for (in no particular order).

1. Seth Cohen from "The O.C."
There is just no denying that geek-tastic charm.

2. Elliot Stabler from "Law and Order:SVU"
I have a thing for cops. Especially this one.

3. Chuck Bass from "Gossip Girl"
A reformed bad boy with just enough bad left in him. Yes, please.

4. Dexter Morgan from "Dexter"
I know, he's a serial killer...but a GOOD GUY serial killer. With a baby. Enough said.

5. Don Draper from "Mad Men"
Jerk? Yes, but I'm ok with that. He can be a jerk to me.

So there you have it. I realize all of these men are from TV, but I do watch a whole lot of TV. I also realize that I kind of have a thing for jerks/damaged men. I don't know where that comes from. Maybe because Caleb is about as nice and nondamaged as the come. Someone should do some Freudian analysis on this and get back to me ASAP.  ;)
